I always photograph outdoors, somewhere where your horse feels comfortable. At the start of the shoot I'll take the time to get to know your horse a bit and, also very important, to give your horse the chance to get to know me a little bit as well.
During the session I will take photos of your horse by him/herself and photos of you with your horse. We'll discuss everything we do because you know your horse best!
Don't stress or be nervous about whether or not your horse will behave during a shoot. Working with animals is always unpredictable and I have a ton of patience with them. I know horses, I'm around them every day, so don't stress, we'll do fine!
I would advice you to work him or her a bit before the shoot, to get some excess energy out of their system. And, of course, make sure they are groomed before the shoot :-)
I work with natural daylight only, so photographing inside a barn isn't the best option unless it has tons of windows and thus tons of natural light.
Whether you want photos of your horse in tack or not is entirely up to you. Whichever you feel represents your best friend best.
I know from personal experience how precious these photos are, especially in the future when you will surely treasure them and I'd be honoured to create these heirloom pieces with you and for you.
